A former N. Carolina State trooper has died after being killed by a deer while cleaning an eyeglass tool.
N.C., a small town in rural North Carolina, has about 2,500 residents and about 1,600 employees, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The crash occurred on Interstate 35E on Thursday afternoon, according N. Carolinas Highway Patrol.
Nelson said the man was cleaning an eye brush and was killed.
She said investigators were still looking into the circumstances of the accident.
Nancy Wilson, the chief of N. Carrolton, said she was not sure what the cause of death was but that the department was conducting an internal investigation.
She also said the state trooper had been a part of the department for about 18 years.
Wilson said the driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
Numerous news outlets reported that the driver was traveling in the northbound lanes of the interstate, which is considered an exit.
Nashville police said that the motorist was not injured.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs for the fallen trooper.
